Start earning your degree while you complete your English language classes. The Bilingual First year program offers students the chance to take select college classes in a bilingual Spanish/English setting.

Program Information

Start your degree while you master English!
Through the Bilingual First Year program, you don't have to wait to earn college credits. Take select classes in a supportive Spanish/English environment alongside other language learners—plus, earn a scholarship!

  • Who it’s for: Fluent Spanish speakers learning English.
  • Eligibility: Open to all students, regardless of citizenship status.
  • Flexibility: Works with almost every degree program.

The Bilingual First Year program provides access to special courses taught in a bilingual format to further develop your English skills while being able to ask questions in Spanish.   

  • Earn as you learn: Get college credits while completing ESOL requirements.
  • Bilingual Help: Dual-language tutoring and the ability to ask questions in Spanish.
  • Built-in Community: Learn alongside peers with similar goals.
  • Scholarship: Get paid to succeed with up to $1,500 in scholarships.

First Semester

  • English as a Second Language (ESOL):  Take the course appropriate for your level.
  • ACCE 112 - Academic Engagement Seminar: Learn essential college skills, how to get the support you need at FCC, and develop college and career goals.

Second Semester

  • English: Continue your ESOL courses or complete your college English requirement.
  • COMM 102 - Interpersonal Communication: Learn essential communication skills needed for success in college and career.

Third Semester

  • College Math: Complete your college wide math requirement.

Most Bilingual First Year program classes are in the evening, so please make sure you can attend evening classes several nights a week.
